  • Busy Weekend

This was a busy weekend. Sabbath we drove up to Grayling, walked around the lake, and then drove to St. Ignace and had a pasty for dinner.

On Sunday we went to Grand Rapids to see the design consultants at Ethan Allen. They were extremely helpful, and we got tons of stuff done. We will be getting some wallpaper there for our entryway and downstairs bathroom, and all of our downstairs window treatments. It's going to cost a few pounds...but it'll be worth it in the long run.

  • Week 21

Wowzers, it's been 10 weeks since my last blog post up here.

Well, as you can see from the title of this blog, it's been 21 weeks since we started Weight Watchers. This morning when I stepped on the scale, it told me that I was 215.6 lbs. Not too bad. I had hoped to be down more than that by now, but hey, that's life.

Life has been pretty busy the last couple of months, so let me give you all (all 2-3 of you who will read this) a brief update.

During July Kristen's Nana had been having a bad spell with her health. She is 91 years old, diabetic, has congestive heart failure, has had several heart attacks, dementia, etc. Well. She had not been sleeping well at night and had been showing greater confusion during the day. Kristen thought perhaps she had pneumonia again, but the family was hesitant to take her in to get some labs done to confirm that, being that she is so old and such. Personally, we didn't think it was an issue as we had been taking her out to places ourselves on the weekends, but then we were not the ones who were going to have to get her to the doctors. Anyways. One night, she got up out of bed, and had a fall. She busted a rib, and ended up staying in the hospital. As soon as she was there we had the labs done, and of course she had pneumonia, just like Kristen figured she would. So, she stayed in the hospital for a week or so to get over the pneumonia, and she was getting alot better. The family then decided to put her into rehab so she could get stronger before coming home, or if she didn't get stronger....just stay at that facility. We were not all too happy with that...and so we were there by her side every evening and brought her back to our place on the weekends. She got over the pneumonia, and was therefore sleeping well at night and was back on her meds to help with the confusion and dementia. She was doing great. She had been there for about a month. That meant we spent very little time at home, and much time at rehab. That's the main reason I haven't lost the weight I wanted to, way too much eating out in order to spend time with Nana. Well...one night a few weeks ago Nana had a stroke. That was a setback. We spent alot of time in the hospital that week. In fact, we of course canceled our UP trip we had planned in order to stay with Nana that weekend. Lots of time at the hospital...lots. But, the good thing was, Nana went home after all that. She's doing really great now! Luckily the stroke was in a part of her brain that only affected her vision. She's not blind, but for sure doesn't have the sight that she used to. She's a little harder to get around now, but she can get to the dinner table, the bathroom, and her bedroom. She's doing real good for someone her age and with all her various issues. We get over to see her about 5 nights a week, and spend the weekends over there keeping her company. Kristen makes sure she gets her baths twice a week, as that's hard for her mom to do alone. Nana sleeps alot since her heart isn't working as hard as it used to, but she's usually pretty chipper when she's awake...and you can wake her up pretty easy.

That's where most of our time goes though. Nana is our life right now, and that's okay with us. Sometimes it gets a little tiring, as we don't get to spend much time at our own house, but at least we aren't sitting with her in the nursing home.

As for what we have actually been doing at our house...not much until recently. We are having a landscaper come over Friday to give us an estimate on some fall planting, like a few small trees and other things that can go in now. We'll probably have him come over again in the spring. We also are buying some new lighting for our living room, we have 5 wall sconces, and they are ugly...so those will be getting replaced within the month, as soon as we can nail one style down. Also, we've put aside enough to get our living room and dining room painted, we just have to settle on a color and hire the guy to come and do it. As soon as we get some of this stuff done, I'll put some pictures up on Facebook to show everyone.

Oh, we also seeded our lawn last week, and all that rain we got from Ike has really helped out. The grass has sprouted and is going to start filling in very nicely. Hopefully with this seeding and the one we'll do in the spring, we'll have enough grass to push out all the weeds. The lawn isn't bare or anything, but it needed some filling in.

Okay, enough of a post for me.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
